The word Diaconia is a translation of the Greek word διάκονος. It refers to service based on a feeling of strong, unconstrained regard for and dedication to others and in perfect harmony with the teachings of Christ. This is exactly how we understand it and have been putting it into practice for the past 50 years, in our works in favour of men, women and young people living in situations of social vulnerability in Brazil.Every thought, action and project of Diaconia is inspired by the motto "Serving to Transform Lives." We are the result of the union of eleven Evangelical churches, aware that we must go beyond words: we must act for the happiness of our brothers and sisters, being an instrument for the promotion of a kingdom of justice and peace on Earth. The practice of the Ecumenism of Service is part of our essence - and it could not be any different! In this journey, we also count on the support of other organisations guided by the Christian commitment to serve others, with whom we dialogue and join forces in the ecumenical networks, ACTAliança and Miqueias Brasil. "We do" diaconia because we believe that it is our responsibility to confront social injustices and contribute to the building up of a society that has equal rights and opportunities.
